Another "interesting" teacher

Today when I picked up the kids from school Lin said her teacher wanted to talk to me. So I went into the classroom and he told me that she is supposed to do a diorama of an ecosystem. He showed me some examples of what other kids had done and said Lin needs to do one and it is due tomorrow. I said too bad, one day is inadequate notice. He said she has had 1.5 weeks to do it. I said it is the first I have heard about it. I asked if they had been studying this topic in class he said of course they have. I asked if she understood any of it, he said no he didn't think so. Arrrgghhh, isn't that what I have been trying to tell you! He said, yes they are having a meeting tomorrow morning about it. Anyway, he said that she could just print pictures off the internet and paste them into the box, that would be good enough. Well maybe for him but I think that is just plain dumb, what is the point of that? Needless to say, we did not do this project tonight. By the time she practiced her flute, practiced her spelling words, ate dinner and went to karate class the evening was spent. I think what I will do is ask to borrow the teaching materials for this unit so I can go over it with her at home. Then maybe she will understand enough of it to do the project.

don't know how you can keep from slapping these people..............it is so sad and makes me angry at the "system". hopefully one day she will get a teacher who is really a "teacher" and interested in putting a little effort into helping your girl
