Yesterday while I was at work I received a text from my sister, who was in Ontario saying something was wrong with mom and to call her right away. When I called she didn't sound good but I couldn't get much out of her. I called my sister quickly and decided that I would just call an ambulance so that she could get seen by a doctor...finally. After over two weeks since her fall and things appeared to be getting worse rather than better. One of my co-workers was kind enough to drive me over to the hospital to meet the ambulance. I had a stressful afternoon waiting around with her and worrying about how I was going to pick up the kids from day care since Alan was in Victoria on a course. I finally broke down and called my co-worker again and asked if she could pick me up and drive me to the day care, which she did. After we got home and Alan arrived he went back to the hospital to find out what was going on and I took Ian to karate. Ben missed his karate time so he just came with me. Alan found out they were keeping her for the night so that at least was good that we wouldn't have to figure out how to cope since she couldn't walk or anything.
Today I went to work for the morning to get a few things done that are on deadlines then the same co-worker (thank goodness for her) drove me back to the hospital. I found out that the doctor had been by and that my mom has a compression fracture. She will be in the hospital for a few days at least. We don't know exactly how long or any details because we haven't been able to speak to the doctor yet. Today I spent quite a few hours there until my sister arrived back from Ontario. They were supposed to come back yesterday but a bird flew into the engine of the plane they were scheduled to fly out on so their flight was cancelled.
While I was visiting there were two other women in the same room with mom and one had been in fire on Monday and had jumped from a two story window to escape the fire. Unfortunately she lost all her belongings and her home in the fire. I am trying to help her find a place to rent for when she is released from the hospital so if anyone in this area knows of a suite for rent please let me know, if it was furnished to some extent that would be helpful.
It seems that bad news comes in three's as I called a friend of mine that owns a bed and breakfast to see if she might be able to stay there for a bit. He no longer has the bed and breakfast but also told me some bad news about his 13 year old daughter. It was all hard to believe and I am feeling a little bit sad for all these people today....and a bit exhausted as well.
